                              Types of Artificial Intelligence

  1. Intelligent systems:
    The earliest AI systems were deterministic:

    Databases + predefined rules + control mechanisms.

    These expert systems relied on structured if–else logic and analogy-based reasoning. They performed reliably within clearly defined domains — yet they could not learn autonomously or extend their knowledge beyond programmed constraints.

    They executed rules.
    They did not generate insight.

  2. Machine learning:
    Machine learning expanded these systems through probabilistic reasoning and statistical modeling:

    • Logical reasoning engines such as IBM Watson
    • Hidden Markov Models powering assistants like Siri
    • Bayesian networks computing conditional probabilities

    These systems identify patterns within historical data. They optimize predictions. They improve with exposure to more examples.

  3. Deep learning:
